Söke Commodity Exchange marks start of dried fig season

The 2026 dried fig season has officially commenced in Söke with a symbolic first purchase ceremony held at the Söke Commodity Exchange. The first batch of dried figs, produced by farmer Yusuf Ene, was purchased at a rate of 600 TL per kilogram.

Ahmet Nejat Sağel, Chairman of the Söke Commodity Exchange, highlighted the region's diverse agricultural potential beyond cotton, noting that dried figs play a vital role in the local economy. For the 2026 production year, it is expected that approximately 1,014 tons of product will be harvested from 33,800 fig trees across 1,165 decares of land, managed by 101 producers.

Sağel emphasized the need to increase product quality, added value, and marketing opportunities to ensure producers receive fair compensation. He also noted that improving processing, packaging, and branding efforts in Söke would further benefit the district's economy.
