Skender Kulenović School bans mobile phones

The Skender Kulenović Elementary School in Donji Kamengrad, near Sanski Most, has implemented a total ban on bringing and using mobile phones. The decision was made by the school's teaching council after educators observed that students were using devices constantly, even during lessons.

School director and pedagogue Admirela Botonjić noted that the devices were negatively impacting students' concentration, learning, and social interaction. She observed that during breaks, students were spending more time on phones rather than socializing, and noted a decline in their vocabulary. Since the ban was introduced, the school has reported improvements in student communication and engagement in free activities.

While students have expressed dissatisfaction, parents have largely supported the measure. The school has established consequences for violations: an initial warning followed by the confiscation of the device. Confiscated phones are not returned to the student but must be collected by a parent or guardian.
