Ski holiday costs rise 33% despite stable demand

The average cost of a ski holiday has increased by 33% over the last four years, rising from €741 to €984 per person. According to an analysis by travel organization Summit Travel, this price hike outpaces the general Dutch inflation rate of approximately 22% during the same period.

The increase is driven primarily by accommodation costs in major Alpine countries, including Austria, France, Italy, and Switzerland. Rising energy, labor, and procurement costs have forced hotels and apartments to raise rates significantly; for instance, stays during the Christmas week saw a 12% increase within a single season in 2023-2024.

Despite these higher prices, consumer behavior has remained largely unchanged. Travelers have not significantly shifted toward shorter trips or cheaper accommodations. Data from Statistik Austria supports this trend, showing that Dutch travelers accounted for nearly 7 million overnight stays in Austria last winter, a 2% increase compared to the previous year.
