Ski jumping equipment market sees new manufacturers and athlete transfers
The ski jumping industry is undergoing a material revolution as new manufacturers enter the niche market to ensure the sport's future. Following a period where traditional manufacturers exited the costly production of specialized jumping skis, three new brands—Fischer-Dübel, Biogena, and Stiebel-Eltron—have emerged on the jumping hills.
Because the global market for jumping skis is extremely small, with only approximately 6,000 pairs produced annually, the International Ski Federation (FIS) previously allowed sponsors to feature prominent logos on the skis to make production economically viable.
In addition to these new brands, high-profile athlete transfers are occurring. Three-time world champion Stefan Kraft is joining the Van Deer team, a brand launched by Marcel Hirscher. Current manufacturers sustaining the sport include Fischer, Van Deer, and Slatnar.
