Skid Row arson: Stranger rescues dog from burning van

An unidentified bystander rescued a four-year-old pit bull named Rosie after her owner’s van was set on fire in the Skid Row neighborhood of Los Angeles. Surveillance footage shows an individual in a white hoodie throwing a flammable object into the vehicle, which was being used as a home by the dog's owner, Clara Catron.

As the van became engulfed in flames, a stranger wearing black shorts and a backwards cap rushed toward the fire and used bolt cutters to sever the chain holding the dog. Catron, who was living in the van at the time, stated that the dog is her life and expressed profound relief at the rescue.

Local business leaders noted that such incidents of violence and lawlessness have become common in the area. The office of Mayor Karen Bass confirmed that the incident will be investigated and reiterated a commitment to addressing animal cruelty and safety on Skid Row.
