Skien police charge two men in Rikke Tofsland-Karlsen murder investigation

Police in Skien, Norway, have arrested and charged two men in their 30s in connection with the disappearance of Rikke Tofsland-Karlsen. One man has been charged with murder, while the second is charged with the desecration of a corpse.

Investigators state that while Tofsland-Karlsen was formally reported missing in October 2025, there have been no confirmed signs of life since late July 2025. The decision to pursue murder charges is based on the lack of life signs, information obtained during interrogations, electronic evidence, and recent seizures.

The man charged with murder has been remanded in custody for four weeks and has not yet been interrogated. The man charged with desecration of a corpse has been remanded for two weeks; his lawyer stated that he denies any involvement in the case.

Criminal technicians have been searching the area around the victim's residence using drones and specialized dogs. The murder suspect and the victim were known to each other, and the suspect had previously been accused of stabbing the victim in the leg, though that case was dropped earlier this year because she could not appear as a witness due to her disappearance.
