Skin care management for pigmentation and seasonal changes

Skin health requires adaptation to seasonal changes and understanding the underlying causes of pigmentation. Pigment serves as a natural UV protection mechanism, but issues arise when production is excessive or uneven. Common issues include sun-induced spots on exposed areas like the face and hands, and melasma, which is influenced by sun exposure and hormones, such as during pregnancy.

Pigmentation can also result from inflammation or skin trauma, such as acne or aggressive exfoliation. It is advised not to treat such spots aggressively, as further irritation can worsen the condition. Any new or changing brown formations that are irregular in shape, color, itchy, or bleeding should be evaluated by a dermatologist.

As autumn approaches, skin often becomes drier, more sensitive, or dull due to wind, rain, and temperature fluctuations between indoors and outdoors. Cosmetic expert Aune Küüt emphasizes the distinction between skin type (natural characteristics like oily or dry) and skin condition (temporary states like dehydration). During seasonal transitions, skincare routines should be adjusted using ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, glycerin, panthenol, ceramides, niacinamide, and antioxidants like vitamin C.
