Skin experts caution on fan‑induced dehydration and sunscreen limits in summer
Pharmacist and quality manager Karla Pires explains that continuous airflow from both fixed and portable fans accelerates transepidermal water loss, leading to skin dehydration, cracked lips and dry eyes, especially on sensitive facial areas. She advises keeping indoor temperatures between 24 °C and 26 °C, using low fan speeds, and directing airflow away from the face.
Cosmetologists Raquel González and Irene Serrano note that even diligent daily sunscreen use does not guarantee a spot‑free complexion. Heat, hormonal changes, oxidative stress, pollution and intense skincare routines can trigger new pigmentations such as melasma or post‑inflammatory marks. They recommend complementing sunscreen with antioxidants, depigmenting actives and a balanced routine that protects, soothes and reinforces the skin barrier.
