Skin health experts advise on winter care and cancer prevention
Experts are highlighting the importance of skin health and monitoring, particularly during seasonal transitions. Dermatological advice emphasizes that winter skin care requires a balance of both hydration and nutrition. Using a thicker cream is not a universal requirement; rather, care should be tailored to skin type. For example, oily skin may only need a regenerative cream to support the protective barrier, while dry or sensitive skin benefits more from heavier textures. Additionally, SPF protection remains necessary in winter, especially in mountainous areas where snow reflects UV radiation.
Concurrently, there is a rising trend in skin cancer cases in the Czech Republic, with up to 30,000 people diagnosed annually according to the Masaryk Oncology Institute. Medical professionals urge individuals to perform self-examinations, looking for changes in the color, size, or borders of moles. While basal cell and squamous cell carcinomas are common, melanoma remains the most dangerous form. Factors contributing to increased diagnoses include lifestyle choices regarding sun exposure, an aging population, and improved accessibility to dermatological screenings which allow for earlier detection.
