Pontianak air quality reaches dangerous levels due to forest fires

Air quality in Pontianak, West Kalimantan, has reached dangerous levels, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) hitting 801. This deterioration is linked to ongoing forest and land fires in the region.

According to IQAir, the high concentration of PM2.5 poses severe health risks to all individuals, including potential respiratory and cardiovascular issues. Health authorities recommend avoiding outdoor exercise, wearing pollution masks, and keeping homes closed. The Pontianak city government is currently preparing to increase healthcare services to manage a potential surge in patients affected by the haze.

Other Indonesian cities also reported unhealthy air quality, including Palangka Raya (AQI 188), Surabaya (AQI 181), Bandung (AQI 172), and Palembang (AQI 164).
