Skincare and Sunscreen Application Guidelines

Experts provide guidance on maintaining skin health during seasonal transitions, emphasizing the importance of year-round sunscreen use to prevent UV damage and photoaging. Even as temperatures drop, broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher is recommended.

For effective application, a thin-to-thick layering principle should be followed: cleansing, toner, water-based serums, functional skincare, moisturizer, sunscreen, primer, foundation, and finally powder. While moisturizer can be omitted if the sunscreen is sufficiently hydrating, it should never be mixed directly into the sunscreen, as this dilutes the protective efficacy.

Regarding layering, users can apply two different sunscreens to improve coverage, though SPF values do not add up mathematically. It is also possible to layer mineral and chemical sunscreens, ideally applying the lighter texture first. However, makeup containing SPF should be viewed as a supplement rather than a primary defense, as typical application amounts of SPF-infused cosmetics are often insufficient to meet the labeled protection levels.
