Skincare experts recommend sunscreen and retinoids for anti-ageing
Dermatologists and health experts suggest that effective anti-ageing skincare does not require complex, multi-step routines. Instead, the focus should be on two primary components: daily broad-spectrum sunscreen and nightly retinoids.
Sunscreen is critical for preventing premature skin ageing caused by UV exposure, which is linked to approximately 80 per cent of visible facial ageing. Experts recommend using at least SPF 30 with adequate UVA protection, applying it to the face, ears, neck, and scalp, and reapplying every two hours when outdoors.
Retinoids, such as retinol or tretinoin, are noted for their ability to reduce fine lines and dark spots. While they can cause initial skin irritation and should be avoided by pregnant women, visible results typically emerge within three to twelve months of consistent use. For maximum efficacy, thin products should be applied before thicker ones, with sunscreen applied last.
