Skincare routines: choosing serums and moisturizers by skin type
Skincare experts and consumer testers emphasize the importance of tailoring facial care routines to specific skin types and needs. For serums, the focus should be on targeted active ingredients like hyaluronic acid or niacinamide to address issues such as hydration, wrinkles, or imperfections. However, the American Academy of Dermatology warns that overly complex routines with too many active products can cause irritation.
Moisturizers should be selected based on skin profile: richer textures for dry skin, lightweight formulas for oily or combination skin, and soothing compositions for sensitive skin. Recent trends also highlight the ‘mochi skin’ technique, which aims for a soft, bouncy, and luminous complexion inspired by Japanese aesthetics.
In consumer testing, Testachats evaluated ten day creams with SPF. While most products provided adequate hydration, some failed to meet their advertised sun protection levels. Specifically, Neutrogena Hydroboost Hydrating Fluid SPF 50 and CeraVe Moisturizing Face Cream SPF 50 did not reach the SPF 50 standard in laboratory tests. L’Oréal, the manufacturer of CeraVe, has expressed a desire to discuss testing standards, while Neutrogena is currently analyzing the results.
