Skincare strategies for aging skin and volume loss

Aging skin undergoes several physiological changes that affect appearance and texture. In individuals in their 60s, the skin's natural renewal process slows, with cell turnover cycles extending from 28 days to as many as 60 days. This can lead to uneven skin and a buildup of dead cells that prevents moisturizers from absorbing effectively.

Additionally, reduced oil production from sebaceous glands can make skin more susceptible to irritation and accentuate fine lines. A loss of elasticity and firmness often results in thinner skin and sagging.

Research by LOoPHA scientist Zevena Teo highlights that hands often show visible signs of aging early due to daily wear and tear. Beyond simple dryness, aging hands experience thinning skin, slowed collagen production, and a loss of natural volume, which can lead to a hollowed appearance. To address these issues, new skincare approaches are moving toward treatment-driven innovation, such as the Helium Hand Cream, which aims to target density, firmness, and texture rather than just providing basic moisturization.
