Skincare trends and best practices for exfoliation and moisturizing
Liquid exfoliants are emerging as a preferred alternative to mechanical scrubs in skincare routines. Unlike traditional physical exfoliants, such as those containing crushed nut shells or microplastics, which can cause microscopic tears and weaken the skin barrier, liquid exfoliants work chemically to dissolve the proteins and fats holding dead skin cells together.
Different acid groups offer specific benefits: Alpha-Hydroxy Acids (AHA), such as glycolic and lactic acid, are water-soluble and work on the skin surface to provide moisture and reduce fine lines. Beta-Hydroxy Acid (BHA), specifically salicylic acid, is fat-soluble and penetrates deep into pores to clear sebum buildup.
Regarding body care, timing and product choice are critical for effective moisturizing. Applying body lotion immediately before sleep may be ineffective, as the product can rub off on bedding before fully absorbing. Additionally, while body lotions are convenient due to their fast absorption, they often contain perfumes and have a diluted texture. For deeper hydration, especially in winter, using creams or oils may be more beneficial than standard lotions.
