Skive Municipality cancels Spottet regenerative building project

Skive Municipality has cancelled the Spottet project, an ambitious regenerative development planned for the old slaughterhouse site. The project, envisioned as a national lighthouse for sustainable construction, was expected to cost between 130 and 150 million DKK. It was intended to house temporary residences, innovation environments, and learning facilities.

Mayor Alfred Brunsgaard stated that while the vision was large, the municipality was unable to secure the necessary funding from foundations and external contributors. Consequently, the city is shifting toward a more realistic development model for the area. This new approach will focus on the broader development of the Elværkskvarteret and the former slaughterhouse grounds, incorporating existing elements like Business Skive and plans for social housing by AAB, rather than concentrating on a single iconic building.

The project was part of the BigBlue Skive urban development plan, which is based on a 2015 vision by the Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) to increase the attractiveness of Skive's city center.
