Skûlenboarch solar park faces delays until late 2026

The Skûlenboarch floating solar park in the Netherlands is facing significant delays, with operations now not expected until late 2026. Although more than 64,000 solar panels have been installed on the water between Jistrum and Eastermar, the facility cannot deliver electricity until its connection to the power grid is completed and a testing phase is finished.

Tytsjerksteradiel municipality, which holds a 70 percent stake in the project following a 6.9 million euro investment, expressed concerns regarding the financial impact. Alderman Berber van Zandbergen noted that the delay could lead to liquidity problems, as interest and repayment costs continue to accrue while revenue from electricity sales is postponed. One analysis indicated a projected loss of approximately 42,463 euros in expected income for 2026.

The delays are attributed to legal procedures involving water permits and nature assessments, as well as a temporary construction halt imposed by the province of Fryslân. Shareholders have requested a financial impact analysis from the management of Zonnepark Skûlenboarch BV to determine necessary next steps and how the additional costs will be distributed.
