Skënder Haluci, former head of Vlora Court, dies at 64

Skënder Haluci, the former head of the Vlora District Court, has passed away at the age of 64. He was reportedly vacationing with his family in the mountains of Tropojë when he suffered a heart complication.

Haluci had a long career in the Albanian judicial system, beginning in 1996. He served as a judge in Tirana for approximately 15 years before moving to the Vlora District Court in 2011, eventually becoming its head in 2013. His judicial career ended in 2020 following the vetting process, when the Independent Qualification Commission decided to dismiss him. This decision was later upheld by the Special Appeal College in 2022.

Historically, Haluci was known for a 1983 case in which he was accused of attempting to assassinate Ramiz Alia in Tropojë. He was initially sentenced to death, though the sentence was later commuted to 25 years in prison by the Presidium of the People's Assembly.
