Skåne agricultural land faces rapid loss to development
Agricultural land in Skåne is disappearing at a rapid rate, with exploitation levels in much of the region halving in recent years. However, certain municipalities are seeing significant losses. Helsingborg is reported to be consuming more agricultural land than any other municipality in Sweden, while Landskrona and Staffanstorp have not seen the same decline in exploitation rates.
The lost land is primarily being converted for use as warehouses, infrastructure, and residential housing developments. Residents have expressed frustration regarding the pace of construction on former farmland, noting that there are almost no legal avenues to appeal municipal building plans.
