Skoda cites Spanish renewable energy as manufacturing advantage

Skoda CEO Klaus Zellmer has identified renewable energy as a primary competitive advantage for manufacturing in Spain compared to Eastern Europe. While Eastern European locations are highly cost-efficient, Zellmer noted that the lower cost of renewable electricity in Spain provides a substantial benefit for industrial operations.

This energy advantage is a key factor in the Volkswagen Group's decision to assign the production of the Skoda Epiq, a fully electric compact SUV, to the Landaben plant in Navarra. This move aligns with the group's strategy to rationalize plant usage amidst recent announcements regarding facility closures in Germany. Spain's position as a European leader in renewable energy, particularly solar power, is increasingly becoming a critical economic lever for its industrial sector.
