Volkswagen Group recalls 4 million vehicles over steering risk
Volkswagen Group is conducting a massive global recall affecting approximately four million vehicles across its Volkswagen, Audi, Škoda, and Seat brands. The recall is due to a defective fastening screw in the steering system that is susceptible to corrosion, potentially caused by long-term exposure to road salt. If the screw head breaks, it could lead to a complete loss of steering control.
The affected vehicles were primarily manufactured between 2013 and 2024. Specific models include the Volkswagen Golf, Tiguan, Touran, Caddy, and Golf Variant, as well as the Audi Q3, and various Škoda models such as the Octavia, Karoq, Kodiaq, and Superb. In the Czech Republic alone, approximately 200,000 vehicles are involved, with 150,000 being Škoda models.
Internal reports suggest the company has been aware of the corrosion issue since October 2024. The repair involves replacing the faulty component with a corrosion-resistant bolt, a process estimated to take approximately one hour at authorized service centers. As of now, no injuries or property damage have been reported in connection with this defect.
