Skoda to launch second-generation Karoq SUV with plug-in hybrid option

Skoda has greenlit the development of a second-generation Karoq SUV, which is expected to launch in 2027 or 2028. Although the company had not initially planned a direct successor due to electrification strategies, CEO Klaus Zellmer confirmed the new model will be built on the Volkswagen Group MQB platform.

A key feature of the upcoming generation is the potential introduction of a plug-in hybrid powertrain, a first for the Karoq line. Zellmer indicated that these drivetrains will be similar to those found in the Kodiaq, aiming for an electric-only range exceeding 100 km to meet high market demand.

The new Karoq is intended to offer significant changes while remaining in a similar price segment to provide high value. While the electric Elroq was expected to fill certain gaps in the lineup, the company sees continued potential for the Karoq model alongside its electric offerings.
