Skopje advisor criticizes Barutana urban development plan
Andrea Jankov, an engineer-architect and advisor for the Levica party in the City of Skopje, has criticized the draft Detailed Urban Plan (DUP) for the Barutana area. During a public debate, Jankov argued that the plan is being falsely presented as a measure to reduce construction volume and protect public interest.
Jankov claimed that while the new plan suggests a 33 percent reduction in residential area compared to the previous DUP, it actually represents a two-and-a-half-fold increase in total residential surface area. He warned that this expansion would place a significant infrastructure burden on the citizens of the Centar Municipality, rather than on the private investors profiting from the urbanization.
Furthermore, Jankov highlighted a history of numerical manipulation in Skopje's urban planning over the last three decades, noting that discrepancies in development parameters have made it difficult to predict future growth accurately.
