Skopje air pollution and climate changes drive rise in patient numbers
Dr. Sedat Lumani has reported an increase in patients seeking medical assistance due to climate changes, air pollution, and high humidity. Common symptoms reported include coughing, body aches, high fever, nausea, loss of appetite, and difficulty concentrating.
Lumani noted that Skopje’s poor microclimate, characterized by fog and humidity, exacerbates breathing difficulties for those with chronic respiratory diseases such as asthma and chronic bronchitis. Furthermore, air pollution is linked to increased risks of cardiovascular issues and strokes, including cerebral hemorrhages caused by high blood pressure.
Medical professionals recommend that patients with respiratory or cardiovascular conditions adhere strictly to their therapies and consult pulmonologists regularly. General health recommendations include consuming seasonal fruits and vegetables, reducing carbohydrate intake, maintaining personal hygiene, and engaging in at least 40 minutes of daily physical activity.
