Skopje Appeal Court Confirms Acquittals in Hotel Izgrev Money‑Laundering Case
The Skopje Court of Appeals upheld the acquittal handed down by the Basic Criminal Court of Skopje in the case commonly referred to as “Hotel Izgrev”. The judgment concerns defendants D. M., Ğ. M. (both from Struga) and D. S. (from Skopje), who were charged with money‑laundering and related offenses.
The appellate court confirmed the full acquittal of D. S. and altered the lower‑court decision for D. M. and Ğ. M., dismissing the charges on the basis that the prosecution was time‑barred under article 367 (6) of the criminal procedure code. The court noted that the proceedings, first opened in 2009, had produced multiple rulings up to 2025, and that higher courts may annul earlier judgments, rendering the case legally closed.
