Skopje commemorates 116 years since the birth of Mother Teresa

Skopje is observing the 116th anniversary of the birth of Mother Teresa, born Agnes Gonxhe Bojaxhiu on August 26, 1910. To mark the occasion, a government delegation led by First Deputy Prime Minister Bekim Sali laid flowers at the memorial plaque of her birthplace in the city center.

Various commemorative events are being held, including a central manifestation at the Museum of Contemporary Art. The event features guests such as Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti. The celebrations, titled ‘Days of Saint Mother Teresa,’ include spiritual, cultural, and humanitarian programs running through September 5, marking the 10th anniversary of her canonization.

Mother Teresa, who later founded the Missionaries of Charity in Kolkata, India, received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979 for her dedication to the poor and vulnerable. Her legacy continues to be honored through exhibitions, poetry evenings, and religious services in her birthplace.
