Skopje court sentences Ministry official for driver's license forgery
The Basic Criminal Court in Skopje has sentenced a Ministry of Internal Affairs official and two drivers to prison terms following their guilty pleas in a driver's license forgery scheme. The former official, a junior advisor for road corrections, received a sentence of two years and six months. The two drivers were each sentenced to one year and three months in prison.
Between September 2020 and August 2026, the official allegedly used her service credentials to gain unauthorized access to the Ministry's electronic system. She used this access to illegally add driving categories to licenses for individuals who had not completed the required training or passed the necessary exams. The drivers participated in the scheme by submitting requests for new licenses based on these falsified records, allowing them to obtain official documents for categories 'C' and 'D' without meeting legal requirements.
The investigation involves six individuals in total. While three have been sentenced, three others remain at large, and authorities are seeking their arrest. Additionally, the prosecution is gathering evidence against 21 other individuals suspected of acting as intermediaries or beneficiaries of the forged licenses.
