Skopje hosts 14th Days of Justinian I symposium
The 14th edition of the International Symposium for Byzantine and Medieval Studies, titled “Days of Justinian I,” has opened at the Museum of the Macedonian Struggle in Skopje. The event is organized by the Institute of National History at Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje and the University of Bologna, in partnership with the St. Clement of Ohrid Orthodox Theological Faculty.
The symposium, which runs until November 1, focuses on the theme “Borders,” exploring political, religious, cultural, and symbolic boundaries in the Byzantine and medieval worlds, as well as the interactions that transcended them. The program includes a plenary lecture by Professor Nora Berend from the University of Cambridge.
Researchers from institutions in over 15 countries are participating in six scientific sessions. The opening ceremony features speakers including Professor Mitko B. Panov, Professor Giuseppe Maino, Dean Ilche Micevski Ignat, Director Anche Ilievska, Italian Ambassador Paolo Palmieri, and Archbishop Stefan.
