Skopje opens exhibition marking 80 years since Goce Delchev's remains repatriation
An exhibition has opened at the Sveti Spas Church in Skopje to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the repatriation of the remains of revolutionary Goce Delchev. The event marks the historical moment in October 1946 when Delchev's remains were transferred from Sofia to Macedonia.
Organized by the State Archives of Macedonia in collaboration with the Conservation Centre Skopje, the exhibition features 12 panels detailing Delchev's life, work, and family. It includes previously unpublished materials such as his personal letters and official correspondence between the two governments regarding the transfer of his remains.
A central feature of the display is the original wooden sarcophagus used to transport the remains from Sofia to Skopje. The exhibition is intended to preserve national memory and honor the historical path taken by his comrades to ensure he rests in the capital of an independent Macedonia.
