Skopje implements GPS tracking for all official city vehicles
Skopje Mayor Orce Gjorgjievski has announced that all official vehicles belonging to the City of Skopje and its public enterprises are now equipped with GPS tracking devices. The initiative aims to increase transparency, prevent misuse of public funds, and reduce operational costs.
The monitoring system provides real-time data on vehicle locations, routes, speeds, and movement duration. Additionally, specialized probes are being used to monitor fuel levels to identify and eliminate illogical expenditures. Gjorgjievski stated that every kilometer driven and every liter of fuel used must be justified.
As a demonstration of this policy, Gjorgjievski noted that he uses his personal vehicle and pays for his own fuel, making the former mayoral official vehicle available for city needs. He cited JSP Skopje as a success story, reporting fuel savings of 500,000 euros in the first six months of the year compared to the same period last year, even after adding 50 more vehicles to the monitoring system.
