Skopje implements new waste disposal rules for hospitality businesses

The Skopje City Council has adopted amendments to the Decision on Communal Order, introducing new waste management regulations for restaurants, cafes, and other hospitality establishments. Under the new rules, these businesses are permitted to dispose of waste until 1:00 AM, a measure designed to accommodate their operating hours and the specific nature of their refuse.

To prevent the overloading of containers intended for residential households, hospitality businesses must now have individual contracts with the public enterprise Komunalna Higijena. They will be required to use their own dedicated containers and pay for collection and transport according to the company's official price list. The regulations also mandate waste separation at the source.

This initiative, proposed by Mayor Orce Gjorgjievski, is part of a broader effort to improve urban hygiene. The city is also in the process of procuring 3,300 new containers to replace damaged ones and increase disposal points across the city. For residential properties, the existing rule remains: waste must be disposed of between 6:00 AM and 10:00 PM, with a 50 euro fine for non-compliance.
