Skopje Mayor announces infrastructure and environmental initiatives

Skopje Mayor Orce Gjorgievski has announced several key urban development and environmental projects for the city. To combat vandalism and illegal dumping, the city plans to install over 200 surveillance cameras at critical locations, pending approval from the Agency for Personal Data Protection. Gjorgievski noted that recent vandalism, such as graffiti on the renovated Lotus fountain, has necessitated these measures.

In terms of waste management, the Mayor aims to reorganize the Drasla landfill and establish a modern recycling center, potentially through a public-private partnership, to convert waste into energy. Additionally, a new eco-platform called ‘EcoSkopje’ has been launched. Developed by young innovators in collaboration with the City of Skopje, the platform allows citizens to report full containers, illegal dumps, and unpleasant odors, while also monitoring local air quality.

Regarding transportation, construction of the Momin Potok interchange is in its final stages. After years of stagnation, the project—which includes major bridges and underground installations—is expected to be operational by the end of the year to alleviate traffic congestion. The city is also working on expanding green spaces, including new parks in Butel and Karposh.
