Skopje launches new urban train service connecting suburbs to center

Skopje has officially launched its new urban train service, connecting suburban areas to the city center. The initial 25-kilometer line runs between Zelenikovo and the Transport Center, passing through stations including Novo Zelenikovo, Oreshani, Jane Sandanski, Dracevo, and Lisiche.

According to official schedules, the journey from Zelenikovo to the center takes between 24 and 28 minutes, significantly faster than the approximately 70-minute drive by car. The service operates nine times daily in each direction. Ticket prices are set at 40 denars for a single trip, 70 denars for a return, and 1,040 denars for a monthly pass.

Minister of Transport Aleksandar Nikoloski stated that the project aims to reduce pollution and improve commuting efficiency for students and workers. Infrastructure improvements allow trains to reach speeds of 80 to 100 km/h on reconstructed sections. Plans are currently underway to design two additional lines: one connecting Gjorce Petrov to the Center, and another from Ilinden to the Center.
