Skopje Mayor calls for urgent animal welfare action

Skopje Mayor Orce Gjorgjievski has called for urgent systemic action following the birth of a foal on a street in Skopje. While the mare and foal have been rescued by ZOO Skopje teams and moved to a safe quarantine location for medical treatment, the Mayor emphasized that this incident highlights a failure in animal welfare protections.

Gjorgjievski urged the Food and Veterinary Agency and the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Economy to launch a coordinated response to address animal exploitation and neglect. Although the City of Skopje is not directly responsible for these matters, the Mayor stated that the city will make its resources available to assist in finding a permanent solution to prevent abandoned animals from being left in dangerous street conditions.
