Skopje mayor urged to remove illegal bilingual billboard

The Democratic Union for Integration (DUI) in North Macedonia has again called on the mayor of Skopje to immediately remove a billboard at the city entrance that displays only Macedonian text, violating the law that requires bilingual signage in Macedonian and Albanian. The party says the sign breaches obligations to respect the Albanian language and threatens legal action if the billboard is not replaced with one that complies with the bilingual requirement.

The demand highlights ongoing tensions over language rights in the capital, where the Albanian‑speaking minority seeks proper implementation of the country’s bilingual provisions. Public officials have faced criticism for ignoring the requirement, and the issue has been raised alongside other local grievances.
