Skopje prosecutors charge six in driver's license forgery scheme

The Basic Public Prosecutor's Office in Skopje has filed charges against six individuals for the continuous criminal offense of forging documents. The scheme involved a junior advisor at the Ministry of Internal Affairs who, between September 2020 and August 2026, allegedly used official codes to illegally add driving categories to licenses.

Five of the accused are drivers who reportedly conspired with the Ministry employee to obtain licenses for categories C and D without passing the required exams. These falsified documents were used to secure professional competence certificates, allowing the individuals to operate buses and heavy goods vehicles in international transport. Some accused reportedly completed dozens of international trips using these fraudulent credentials.

Prosecutors have requested continued detention for three of the accused, including the Ministry employee. Three others remain at large, and the prosecution has requested detention upon their capture, with proceedings to continue in their absence. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities seeking evidence against an additional 21 individuals suspected of acting as intermediaries or users of the forged licenses.
