Skopje rescues street-born foal as Croatian spa project halts over hazardous waste
In Skopje, North Macedonia, a mare that gave birth on a city street has been moved to the Skopje Zoo for quarantine and medical care. Mayor Orce Đorđievski reported that the mare and her foal were taken into safety after the birth occurred in unsuitable conditions on asphalt. The Mayor called for coordinated action from the Food and Veterinary Agency and the Ministry of Agriculture to address animal welfare and prevent the abandonment of animals in the city.
In Croatia, construction of the Terme Jodno wellness and spa center in Sisak has been halted following the discovery of hazardous waste during excavation. The contractor, Tehnika d. d., confirmed that preliminary analyses indicate the presence of dangerous substances. Unofficial reports suggest the waste may contain mercury at concentrations significantly exceeding permitted limits. Criminal police and the State Inspectorate are currently investigating the site.
