Skopje Restores Iconic Underground Fountain in City Center

Mayor Orce Gjorgievski announced that the underground fountain on Macedonia Square in Skopje will be fully restored after years of neglect. The renovation involves a comprehensive overhaul with specialized equipment imported from Germany and an automated control system that requires precise coordination.

The project replaces the old plastic sub‑structure that supported heavy concrete slabs with a new stainless‑steel framework designed to withstand greater mechanical loads, improving the system’s stability, safety and durability. At the same time, damaged paving stones around the Porta Macedonia entrance are being replaced, giving the central city area a cleaner and more dignified appearance. The restored fountain is expected to become a vibrant meeting place for residents and tourists, reviving one of the most recognizable landmarks in Skopje.
