Skopje to begin citywide mosquito disinfection on July 13, 2026

Rising temperatures have led to a surge in mosquito numbers in Skopje, especially around the Vardar River. The municipal authorities announced that a ground disinfection operation against mosquitoes will start on 13 July 2026.

The treatment will run nightly from 22:00 to 03:00 between Monday and Thursday, targeting the city’s streets and open areas. Beekeepers have been urged to take protective measures for their hives during the operation. Officials noted that a similar intervention was carried out the previous month and that the current action is a preventive measure to protect public health. If weather conditions are unsuitable, the operation will be postponed to the next suitable night.

The city stresses that the night‑time schedule is intended to minimise impact on residents while maximising effectiveness, as mosquito activity is highest after dark.
