North Macedonia to receive first electric buses by January

North Macedonia is set to receive its first batch of 30 electric buses in December or January, according to Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport Aleksandar Nikolloski. This follows the rejection of a public procurement appeal by the Second-instance Commission for Public Procurement.

The total order consists of 150 electric buses and 75 charging stations. The contract was awarded to a joint bid from Hungarian manufacturer Ikarus Electric and Austrian company EVN. The full delivery of the 150 buses is expected to be completed within 18 months.

In addition to the bus procurement, Nikolloski provided updates on other infrastructure projects. He noted that construction on the Ohrid–Kičevo highway is expected to conclude in the first quarter of 2027, depending on winter weather conditions. He also mentioned progress on the Kriva Palanka–Bulgarian border railway tunnel and the upcoming launch of the City Train in Skopje, scheduled for September 1.
