Skopsko Kale to host new prehistoric and Ottoman period museums
Preparations are underway at Skopsko Kale to open two new institutions: a Museum of Prehistory and a Museum of the Ottoman Period. The facilities are expected to become operational next year following interior design work that begins this week.
The museums will display thousands of archaeological artifacts discovered during major excavations conducted between 2007 and 2016. These items, which include over 5,000 pieces, will be presented using modern museological principles such as interactivity, narrative, and multimedia approaches.
Following a government decision, the Archaeological Museum of Macedonia has been entrusted with the management of the collections. Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski visited the site, expressing his expectation that the fortress will become a significant tourist attraction for both citizens and international visitors. The project follows an 8 million denar investment for the adaptation and renovation of the buildings.
