SKUAST advances agricultural diversification and ecological restoration
Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (SKUAST) is implementing new agricultural and ecological initiatives across its campuses.
In Bandipora, SKUAST-K has identified aquatic agriculture, crop diversification, protected cultivation, and value addition as primary strategies to strengthen farm incomes and livelihoods. During a recent Scientific Advisory Committee meeting, officials outlined an action plan involving technology demonstrations, farmer training, and climate-resilient farming practices to address emerging production challenges in the district.
Simultaneously, SKUAST-Jammu has concluded a multi-year plantation drive (2024–2026) aimed at ecological restoration and student well-being. The initiative focused on developing open-air green zone reading areas around the Central Library at Chatha and the Faculty Library at R. S. Pura. This drive serves as part of a broader campus restoration effort following severe flash floods in August 2025, utilizing native and fruit-bearing plants to enhance the campus environment.
