Skunk Train introduces railbike attraction in Mendocino County

The Skunk Train in Willits, Mendocino County, California, has introduced a new attraction called the Railbike Railcoaster. This feature allows visitors to travel along the historic Redwood Route using patented two-person open-air railbikes equipped with electric power assistance.

Operating since 1885, the Skunk Train originally served the Union Lumber Company by transporting logs from Fort Bragg to coastal sawmills. Today, the area remains a significant destination for its redwood forests and rural character. Willits Mayor Tom Allman, a former county sheriff, noted the region's unique landscape of mountains, oceans, and ancient sequoias.

The region also maintains a strong connection to Italian heritage, particularly in Redwood Valley. An active community of Italian wine producers has been established since approximately 1900, with families such as the Barras having founded multiple active wineries in the area.
