Sky documentary on Giulio Regeni premieres, reviving justice calls

A new documentary titled “Giulio Regeni – Tutto il male del mondo” aired on Sky Documentaries on 20 May at 21:15, featuring the testimony of Regeni’s parents as they recount the 2016 disappearance and murder of the Italian researcher in Cairo. The film, directed by Simone Manetti, also includes insights from the lawyer who has been pursuing legal action against four Egyptian National Security agents, a case that began in 2023 and is expected to conclude by the end of 2026.

The documentary’s broadcast follows recent controversy over public‑funding decisions for the project, which prompted resignations from a cultural‑ministry evaluation panel and a parliamentary question to the culture minister. In parallel, Italy’s Università per Stranieri di Perugia joined a national initiative, “Le Università per Giulio Regeni,” to honor the researcher and promote the film’s screening.

The program is simultaneously available on streaming platforms NOW and on‑demand, extending its reach beyond the initial television airing.
