Jannik Sinner Opens Centre Court as Wimbledon 2026 Begins
Wimbledon 2026 kicked off on 29 June in London with world No. 1 Jannik Sinner opening the Centre Court against Miomir Kecmanović, marking the first time an Italian player has started the tournament from the show‑court. The event features a full slate of first‑round matches, including Novak Djokovic vs Yibing Wu, Aryna Sabalenka vs Tamara Kostić and Coco Gauff’s opening match against Tamara Korpatsch.
Sky Sport holds exclusive UK broadcast rights through 2030, offering 11 dedicated channels and more than 750 hours of live coverage, supplemented by streaming on NOW and the Sky Go app. Italian representatives also include Matteo Berrettini, Luciano Darderi, Elisabetta Cocciaretto and other newcomers.
Off‑court, veteran Stan Wawrinka criticised the growing media‑access restrictions at the tournament, while American star Coco Gauff discussed her Wimbledon fashion partnership with New Balance and Miu Miu, highlighting the event’s traditional all‑white dress code.
The tournament runs until 12 July, with daily programming listed on Italian TV guides and online platforms, and includes strict heat‑danger rules to protect players amid unusually high summer temperatures.
