Sky Express flight performs go-around at Athens airport
Director and actor Iakovos Mylonas reported a distressing experience on a Sky Express flight from Heraklion to Athens. According to Mylonas, while the aircraft was attempting to land at Eleftherios Venizelos Airport, the pilot performed an abrupt acceleration and ascent, known as a ‘go-around’. Mylonas claimed the maneuver caused panic among passengers.
The pilot later announced that another aircraft was on the same runway, necessitating the delayed landing. In response to the social media claims, the Air Traffic Controllers Union (EEKE) stated that the go-around is a ‘predictable and common safety procedure’. The Union emphasized that safety takes precedence over landing and noted that descriptions of a ‘near tragedy’ or ‘near collision’ cannot be substantiated by passenger videos or personal opinions.
