Sky Harbor names American Airlines as primary carrier for new West Terminal

Sky Harbor International Airport has named American Airlines as the primary carrier for its upcoming West Terminal. This project marks the airport’s first new terminal construction since Terminal 4 opened in 1990.

The expansion is part of the “Destination PHX 2050” plan, a comprehensive development program designed to guide future capital investments. The new terminal aims to optimize domestic and international growth, serving as a gateway for increasing international traffic and accommodating wide-body aircraft.

American Airlines is currently the largest carrier at Sky Harbor, handling over 40% of total passenger traffic and serving more than 20 million customers annually. The planned West Terminal will be constructed between the existing Terminal 3 and a taxiway expected to be finished in 2027.
