Skydance acquisition may revive Barbie sequel plans

The development of a sequel to the hit film ‘Barbie’ may be gaining momentum following the acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery by Skydance. While the project previously faced delays due to high production costs and salary negotiations with the original creative team, the new leadership structure under Skydance is reportedly working to revitalize lucrative franchises.

Executives Dana Goldberg and Josh Greenstein are expected to lead film production efforts and are already engaging with key partners. This includes reaching out to LuckyChap, the production company co-founded by Margot Robbie, to secure agreements for the sequel. The first film was a massive commercial success, earning approximately $1.4 billion to $1.5 billion globally.
