Skydance CEO David Ellison targets tech giants in new media strategy
Following the merger involving Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery, Skydance CEO David Ellison has outlined a strategic vision focused on competing with major technology companies. In leaked audio from a company town hall, Ellison stated that the firm is no longer just competing with traditional media, but with global tech giants like Amazon and Google’s YouTube for consumer attention.
Ellison emphasized that Skydance will integrate technology as a fundamental capability rather than a side project, aiming to become a highly technologically capable media company. He noted that the three-year process to reach this merger was difficult, stating, “At times, it was downright ugly.”
To support this new direction, Skydance has appointed several high-profile figures to its leadership structure. Investor and philanthropist Laurene Powell Jobs and former Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick have joined the board of directors. Additionally, former U.K. Prime Minister Tony Blair will serve as a board adviser. While Ellison focuses on creative and technological strategy, Ynon Kreiz will manage day-to-day operations and integration.
