SkyDrive to launch eVTOL sightseeing services in Australia

Japanese eVTOL manufacturer SkyDrive Inc. has signed a Letter of Intent with Gold Coast Helitours to introduce electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft to Australia. The agreement involves the purchase of up to five SD-05 aircraft, with a delivery schedule targeting two units in 2028 and three in 2029.

The partnership aims to launch Australia’s first eVTOL sightseeing service in 2028. Operations are planned to depart from the existing heliport at Marina Mirage in Main Beach, featuring a 10-minute scenic loop over the Broadwater, Southport, and Surfers Paradise.

To support this launch, the companies intend to work toward regulatory type certification and develop infrastructure, including a dedicated vertiport and a maintenance, repair, and overhaul facility at Southport Airfield. This airfield is envisioned as a central hub for a broader network intended to connect the Gold Coast city center, commercial districts, and the Gold Coast Airport.
